Thirty years ago, on October 29th 1981, Georges Brassens disappeared, French singer and poetry icon.
Even though, his texts, songs stay in everybody’s minds and through them, his incisive and amused look on our time. To pay tribute to Georges Brassens, Maurice Boyer and Gilbert Troutet with Paul Parent their bass guitarist, will borrow Georges Brassens’ a selection of songs where sadness is close to impertinence and where humor flirts with poetry.
There are some songs that we all have already heard, some others that were a bit less popular, but that we will be happy to rediscover.
The concert will be scattered with some of Georges Brassens’ poetry, some comments on his work as well as some anecdotes about his life.
Those three interpreters and musicians are part of the “Chapeau Brassens” show, that has been presented several times in Ottawa region and has had a lot of success.
50 years ago Georges Brassens came to Quebec in order to make us discover his music. Nowadays, it is through this show that we offer you the possibility of re-discovering it.

Love is the best thing that can ever happen to us, but it will always take a lot of work. There are things we need to learn how to say and what to do, but mostly, we need to be comfortable with touch or “contact comfort.” Attachment theory and the new science of trust tell us a lot about touch and love. This talk will explore all these aspects of love.

Travel to the heart of Ireland with this lively quartet that is sure to raise the rafters of La Grange de la Gatineau. Let the party begin!
These four talented and energetic musicians will treat you to a range of music from Celtic to traditional Quebec music and bluegrass. The Irish Bastards are Jean-Philippe Goupil (voice, guitar, tenor banjo), Dylan Perron (banjo and voice), Lisa Demay (violin and voice) and Alexandre Veillette (mandolin, voice, guitar and podorhythm). These musicians, from different parts of Quebec, have only been playing together for a year, but they are all experienced and recognized musicians in their own right.
It’s a show with an Irish flavour and especially Irish drinking songs, with influences including The Dubliners, The Pogues, The Chieftains, The Irish Rover and The Planxty. But they can’t resist the rich roots of music from Quebec and America, and offer up a few home-style jigs with a tinge of bluegrass. It’s all their way of getting their audience up singing and dancing and laughing – and the audience at the Grange will be no exception!

Caridad Cruz
Caridad Cruz Vilain was born in Havana, Cuba, into a musical family deeply rooted in Afro-Cuban culture. Caridad studied music for three years at Havana’s Escuela Superación Técnico Profesional Ignacio Cervantes under the tutelage of Argelia Fragoso, while at the same time taking private vocal training from Margarita Orutinier. In 2006, Caridad toured New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut, accompanied by some of New York’s leading Latin jazz players, like bassist Ruben Rodriguez and conguero Chembo Corniel. In Montreal, backed by the powerful 9-piece salsa band Ritmo Caribeño, she sang a Celia Cruz retrospective, which was repeated in the 2006 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. In 2007, Caridad exploded onto the Ottawa scene, with appearances in the National Arts Centre’s Quebec Scene festival, the Ottawa Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Bluesfest. “Havana native Caridad Cruz packs a powerful punch,” read the Ottawa Citizen headline.
Yoel Diaz – piano
Since arriving in Montreal from Cuba in 1997, Yoel Diaz has been a local hit. Le Devoir called him “one of Montreal’s best pianists of Cuban music.” La Presse lauded his “impeccable technique acquired in the best conservatories of Cuba.”
César Ricardo – guitar
A talented songwriter, a brilliant guitarist and a soulful baritone singer are just a few words to describe Cesar Ricardo. As a soloist, Cesar’s charming nature and baritone Cuban trovadores-son-jazz style is a must at any event!
August – October 2011: Art at the Grange
It’s art and artists of all descriptions at La Grange de la Gatineau, which is fast becoming a cultural centre for Cantley. La Grange has been drawing capacity crowds for its monthly concerts, featuring music from Brazil and Cuba, jazz, Irish, French chansonnier and bluesy guitar. The arts of cuisine are a recent addition, with pre-show dinners offered by the Cordon bleu chef of La Grange, Chef Keith.
But now, La Grange has added a new facet of cultural offering with temporary art exhibits.
Currently, the charming and character-filled works of Eastern Townships painter Susan Ostrovsky are on display, alongside a photographic exhibit of water scenes by Cantley photographer Kristina Jensen.
“Her paintings unreservedly open the door to her inner world,” according to Susan Ostrovsky’s biography. “For her, the act of painting is a search for a connection with that other place in all of us that is both individual and universal. Authentic and original in her imagery, she transposes the familiar into visions charged with magic and symbols. Her palette is soft and shimmering. Her figures gaze out at us, questioning, from their dreamlike universe.”
Kristina Jensen is a journalist, and editor-in-chief of the Echo. In the course of her discovery of the people and region of the Outaouais in the past decade, she has honed her talents as a photographer. Her first exhibition was in 2010 at Cantley’s first art gallery, LinART. At La Grange, she is showing a collection of scenes of sky and water, as well as a sampling of polymer sculptures, which is a new artistic endeavor for her.
All works are available for viewing or for sale, by visiting La Grange de la Gatineau (80 chemin Summer) by appointment, or during concerts. For information on art and concerts at La Grange de la Gatineau: www.grange.ca / info@grange.ca / 819-827-3164

Some of you might not recognize Shawn Phillips’s name, but you’ve heard his impact. He helped Joni Mitchell learn guitar and gave George Harrison sitar lessons. He sang on the Beatles’ “Lovely Rita (Meter Maid)” from their “Sgt. Pepper’s” album. He hung out with the Greenwich Village crowd in the heyday of Hardin, Havens, van Ronk and Dylan; and shared living space in London with Donovan and Paul Simon. He performed at Britain’s pivotal Isle of Wight concert. He was initially cast to play the lead in the original “Jesus Christ Superstar,” though he ended up not doing the role. And all that isn’t even counting his own music, some 20 albums’ worth of mesmerizing, haunting vocals and guitar work — plus other projects, like a ballet called “Events in the Life of a Prince.”
The late rock promoter Bill Graham called him “the best-kept secret in the music business.”

In the summer of 2009 Mathieu Gagnon fell in love with the sound of the harmonica and rediscovered the Blues. He immediateIy set out to buy his first official harmonica (Marine Band Key of C what else?). He has not been able to put it down ever since and became “Matty Boy”, one of the rare blues harmonicists in Outaouais. Inspired by Chicago Blues legends, he offers, with guitarist Christ Breitner and percussionist Simon Meilleur, an evening of Roots and Blues that you will not forget!
