FAMILY, FRIENDS & FUN AT THE GRANGE

Grange family and fun

Connecting with nature restores the spirits and helps to take stock of the really important things in life – family, friends and taking time to enjoy ourselves.

The original owners of The Grange lived by these important values when they built their ideal home on the banks of the river in the heart of the forest. The Grange itself is an authentic log building, built on a rock formation that is part of the Canadian Shield. Surrounded by acres of forest that is home to wild birds and native animals, it has a vista across the Gatineau River and to the far shore where occasionally you will glimpse the Wakefield steam train passing by with a friendly toot of the whistle. The Grange’s trails, swimming beach and panoramas are just part of your visit.

Situated only 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa, it is hard to imagine a better gathering place than The Grange de la Gatineau for family, friends and colleagues to gather for a formal or casual get-together.

FAMILY GATHERING TO WARM THE HEART

Planning a family reunion, celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just being together? Forget the impersonal hotel or conference hall setting and opt instead for the warm and hospitable atmosphere of the Grange. Everyone will feel at home because they will be in the welcoming environment of a charmingly decorated home. In winter, enjoy mulled wine in front of the fireplace. On a summer day your guests will enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail on the lawns or make use of the outstanding outdoor facilities.

Kids welcome, no kidding!

With the great outdoors all around, there are plenty of ways to enjoy being part of nature as part of your event at the Grange de la Gatineau: walks, supervised boating or swimming in the safe shallow water of our beach, not to mention easy access to a lovely park and soccer field nearby and kayak, canoe or snowshoe excursions with a qualified leader.

The Grange is a great place for you and the younger set to enjoy the outdoors any season of the year. Ask us how we can help plan your activities.

Indoors, the Great Hall is a wonderful venue for a party, with a band or DJ for dancing on our huge natural wood floor. For some events guests can use the Games room with billiards or ping-pong. Those who would prefer a moment of quiet time can find solace in the Library with a wide range of titles sure to please the most demanding bookworm!

We can help you organize music, decorations and any other needs you might have for your event. And of course, we can offer any kind of menu for all kinds of meals – from elegant gourmet, to snacks, brunch or hors d’oeuvres. Contact us for more details.

GRANGE PROTOCOL

Dress: From definitely casual to sequins and bow-ties… dress depends entirely on your event and the atmosphere you want to create. Women may want to wear flat shoes to have a walk on the grounds. Being nearby the river, late afternoons and evenings can be chilly, so we recommend a woollen wrap for those who like it warm even outside under the stars! In the winter, we average temperatures about 5 degrees lower than in Ottawa and we also have more snow. If you are planning outdoor activities, please advise your guests to dress for the cold.
Parking: Buses and individual cars can be safely parked around the property. Please advise us what you anticipate your parking needs will be and do ask us about group transportation to make a social event of the travel.
Child care: let us know if you would like to arrange childcare service. We have a special children’s space and child carer.
Music: The Grange has a concert-quality piano. We can also arrange for a DJ for your party in the Great Hall. We can also recommend excellent artists, from string quartet, to solo or group singers.
Photography: you will find the site enchanting and will want to take lots of pictures. We welcome amateur photographers and encourage all of you to snap those memories. We ask that all photography remain for non-professional activities. Official Grange pictures can be obtained from our office and we can recommend a professional photographer.
Children licking plates: we won’t stop it and we promise not to tell! We know our food is great.
